See what our patients have to say

After enduring a car accident at a young age, 58-year-old Denise Rast suffered from severe ankle pain for the last ten years. While initially afraid to undergo ankle surgery, Denise changed her mind after meeting Dr. Fran Faro of Orthopaedic Physicians of Colorado (OPC).

Denise refers to Dr. Faro as "the women who changed my life," and describes her as "brilliant, passionate and confident."

Following a knee replacement by OPC Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. John Woodward, Denise was able to have ankle surgery using a prosthetic ankle joint put in with a guide produced by a 3D printer. Dr. Faro’s knowledge and confidence encouraged Denise to try this new type of procedure.

Following the successful surgery, Denise is able to do all the things that were limited before; from paddle boating to biking and even snorkeling. She is ecstatic about being able to play with her five grandchildren and hike along coastal trails during her travels. She is also enjoying sporting a new style, "no more orthopedic shoes!"

Roland Glenn never knew how much pain he was in until he became pain-free. Roland was referred to Dr. Joseph Assini after being crippled with knee pain for five years and unable to work. Following an assessment at Orthopaedic Physicians of Colorado, Roland chose to undergo a right knee replacement.

“It’s been a blessing. Dr. Assini is an amazing doctor who is very good at what he does. He goes out of his way to explain things, and even made the effort to inform my wife about the procedure to help put her at ease.”

He spent the two months following the procedure walking in order to strengthen his knee. Prior to the procedure, he could not walk more than twenty steps at a time, and now he has worked his way up to walking a full mile. In addition, he is beginning to have feeling again on the outside of his knee, but this time without the associated pain.

“I am 100 percent pain free, and would recommend Dr. Assini 1,000 percent.”

For most of Glenda Holden’s life, she has had pain and mobility issues related to her knees. Last summer, when the pain increased, she knew it was time to visit a specialist. The pain and range of motion had gotten so bad that she had difficulty partaking in daily activities as simple as walking up and down the stairs.

New to the area, she visited the Orthopaedic Physicians of Colorado where she met with Dr. Joseph Assini. Dr. Assini informed Glenda that she would need a total knee replacement and on November 3, 2014 she underwent surgery at Swedish Medical Center. Just a month after surgery, Glenda was able to walk with little pain, which was a huge improvement after suffering for years.

“Today, as a result of this surgery, my knee feels better than it has in 10 years. For the first time, I can walk up and down stairs with ease. I feel like I can do pretty much anything now, pain free,” said Glenda. “Dr. Assini is wonderful. I can’t even begin to convey the gratitude I have towards him and his staff. They have truly given me my life back.”

Meredith Miller first began experiencing pain in her right hip during a vacation she took to Europe and after she returned home the pain only worsened. She has been a regular patient of the Orthopaedic Physicians of Colorado for years, so she immediately went to see her regular physician and he referred her to Dr. Joseph Assini to treat her hip pain. After seeking a second opinion for good measure, Meredith knew Dr. Assini was the best choice.

Dr. Assini recommended a total hip replacement and explained Meredith’s options to her. On October 27, 2014, just a few weeks after the consultation, she underwent an anterior hip replacement surgery for her right hip at Swedish Medical Center. She spent only three days recovering in the hospital and underwent a little over a week of physical therapy in her home. After just a month, Meredith’s hip had improved immensely.

“I don’t feel any hip pain anymore, which is absolutely amazing. I can keep up with my grandchild again, am back to riding my bike and can finally go shopping without having to take breaks to sit on a bench,” said Meredith. “I am very impressed with the outcome of the surgery and the professionalism of the physicians and staff.”

After experiencing severe hip pain and feeling like she was living on aspirin, Patricia began researching her options. She heard an advertisement for a free hip pain seminar given by Dr. John Woodward on the radio and attended the event in November 2014. During the seminar, many people with hip pain were able to openly ask questions about their options, the total hip replacement surgery and recovery.

“I was so impressed with Dr. Woodward’s presence, his knowledge on the topic and his candidness when answering our questions,” said Patricia. “He took the time out of his day to talk to us and it felt like he truly cared about helping us.”

On January 7, just two months after initially attending the seminar, Patricia underwent total hip replacement surgery. Just five days after surgery, she was off of all pain medications, including aspirin. Two weeks after surgery, Patricia reports feeling stronger every day.

“During this process, I never faced an unknown and never felt alone. Dr. Woodward and his staff were very caring, and I had complete confidence in them from the beginning,” said Patricia. “Before this surgery, my lifestyle was extremely limited due to the severe hip pain. Today, I feel like I can accomplish more than ever before, and Dr. Woodward opened that door for me. I feel immense gratitude and my heart is filled with optimism for the future.
